Protecting Your Company’s Reputation

29 April 2009 212 views One Comment

As started in the Charter of Human Rights, everyone has their rights to their opinions. In the internet age, it is possible for one single opinion to be heard by thousands of people, if not more. Therefore, it becomes increasing important for companies to focus the quality of their products and the efficiency and attitude of their customer service department.

The internet is a double-edged sword to the company. If a customer passes good comments about your companies online, potential customers may be attracted to your company. On the other hand, if bad comments passed online, you would have the reverse impact, in a greater magnitude. Why? Because bad stuff spread faster than good stuff. Therefore it is important to protect your company both online and offline.

To do that, examine the keywords that will be typed in search engines that are relevant to your company and industry. Key in those keywords into the search engines. You are looking for 2 things. First and foremost are forums relevant to your trade. So that you can contribute to those niche forums and get some attention. Also, forums are where comments of any type are passes around, so you may want to scan for comments. Second would be opinions regarding your website. These can be found anywhere. Check to see if they are any comments, good or bad. If there are, share them with your workforce, and act accordingly.

If you are busy with running the company, and the staff are already working very hard, you might want to delegate this work to a third party expert. There are individuals and companies that are making a living doing social media marketing, and this can be one of their services.

With all that said, companies should start to value the opinions of customers. You cannot blame someone for “poisoning the well” when the “well” is dirty in the first place.
