HubSpot created a very good graphical timeline on inbound marketing. For those who do not know what inbound marketing is, Wikipedia define it as “Inbound marketing is a style of marketing that focuses on getting found by customers”. HubSpot started the timeline with the invention of search engine in 1994 and end with 220,000,000 iPods sold worldwide.

Take a look at the timeline and you will realize the demise of traditional marketing and the importance of inbound marketing.

As 2009 is coming to a close, I realize I have been blogging on this site for slightly more than a year now. I just want to say to everyone here who have been following me on Facebook, Twitter and this blog a very big thank you to all of you. Ever wonder what the world will be like in 2015? Well, Google may have the answer. Google CEO Eric Schmidt made his predictions during a 45-minute interview at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2009 in October. Here are the essence of what he said.

1. Five years from now the internet will be dominated by Chinese-language content.
2. Today’s teenagers are the model of how the web will work in five years – they jump from app to app to app seamlessly.
3. Five years is a factor of ten in Moore’s Law, meaning that computers will be capable of far more by that time than they are today.
4. Within five years there will be broadband well above 100MB in performance – and distribution distinctions between TV, radio and the web will go away.
5. “We’re starting to make significant money off of YouTube”, content will move towards more video.
6. “Real time information is just as valuable as all the other information, we want it included in our search results.”
7. There are many companies beyond Twitter and Facebook doing real time.
8. “We can index real-time info now – but how do we rank it?”
9. It’s because of this fundamental shift towards user-generated information that people will listen more to other people than to traditional sources. Learning how to rank that “is the great challenge of the age.” Schmidt believes Google can solve that problem.

He also elaborated on point 2, regarding teenagers and this is what he has to say:

Talk to a teenager about how they consume information. And remember – in five years from now, that’s your employee.

To embrace the upcoming F1 race in Singapore, I have changed my blogging sequence to bring you something really interesting. The PUMA retail team recently build a Ferrari F1 car out of nothing more than clothes, caps, shoes and bags. What is interesting is not just the creative idea generated, but the cost of production and promoting the PUMA brand. The video went on Youtube on 16 Sep and within one week they’ve got 36 comments and almost 50,000 views (as of 24 Sep). I don’t think the cost of production and promoting the brand is any where above $1000. So, here is the take away. Do something creative, film it and watch it go viral.Here is the video of the car and some pictures too. Have fun at F1 this weekend!
