Building Traffic With Social Media

27 December 2008 242 views No Comment

Today using blogs to market your company is getting increasingly popular. Companies are now getting aware of the benefits an “online presence” will bring them, compared to their rivals. People used to say “9 out of 10 companies will fail”. Now, with the added “online presence”, the success rate will be higher, and can probably make yours the “1“.

One of the problems with internet companies that fail is that they wait for the traffic to come. Yes, due to the sheer population of the online world, there will certainly be some traffic but that amount will not likely give you the amount the need to survive. Even if you are earning through Adsense, you should still play an active part in driving traffic. Here are some things you can do.

1. The art of the pingback. Go and search for relevant sites/blogs and leave a comment with a link to your own site. You are effectively directing someone else’s traffic to yours. This is a good way especially if that someone’s site has decent traffic.

2. Advertise your site to Google and other search engines. For a start, you may try Google and Yahoo. Don’t worry, they would not burn a hole in your pocket.

3. Cyber-networking sites. Create a profile, add a cause for your company. Invite all your friends so that they can all see what is going on in your company. At the same time, you might want to find like-minded individuals for employment, or to prospect clients.

4. Forum-marketing. Go to relevant forums, ask or answer questions and then give a link to your company website. This is a great way to boost traffic because forums are where people gather, and forums that are relevant to your business will attract loyal traffic.

Social networking sites may be a great tool, but beware not to over-do it to the extent that you are spamming them. They can kick you out of your system. Secondly, it will make a bad name for your website when you spam.
