Are You Willing to Sacrifice 10 Friends For a Whopper?

Burger King have recently launch an application that is getting alot of attention these days -“Whopper Sacrifice.” The concept is really simple. All you have to do is sacrifice 10 facebook friends and you will get a whopper free. Apparently, it doesn’t appear to be a big deal for most facebook users because till date, about 150,000 ‘friends’ have been sacrified.

While Burger King’s tactics is quick hit marketing and most likely about getting some press attention, it is actually also on to something. As our networks actually grow and we are adding people we barely know, the quality of ‘friends’ seem to deteriorates – to the point that removing 10 friends for a burger seem to be a reasonable proposition.

I like to follow people because it gives me a sense of what people are talking about and an opportunity to engage in conversations with them, but when you are following hundreds if not thousands of friends, a lot of those people become more or less interchangeable, especially when there are no good options to filter the noise.

I’d trade 10 Facebook friends for a Whopper. What about you?
